Champagne Showers

This is for all my lovely people who have been so patient with me when it came to this makeup thing. I’m not a professional and also hate doing makeup on other people, so I’m always surprised at the number of questions I receive about it. I vow to try my best at explaining how I achieve some of my favourite looks, but, you know how you guys have been super patient with me? Yeah, please keep that same energy lol. I get that the dynamic of explaining makeup over a blog might be a bit more difficult to grasp than compared to a video, and the likes, but just know I’ve got y’all!

A – So, the order in which I do my makeup has been long disputed, but this works best for ME. I start with my eyebrows and then move onto my eyeshadow to avoid any product fallout. For the brow’s I’m currently using a brow gel by NYX to fill them in, and then I clean them up with L.A. Pro concealer.

B – This eye look was quite simple to achieve. I literally used 4 colours and just blended until I felt satisfied. I prime my entire eye with the jumbo pencil in Milk by NYX, this avoids any creasing and will give your eyeshadow longevity. Priming your lids before any eyeshadow application will also help the colours to stand out more. Use a muted brown colour above the crease of the eyelid to make for a nice transition (1). Then go into the actual eyelid crease and use a dark brown colour to create depth (2). You then go in with a deep brown/purple shade in the outer corner of your eye, bringing it in slightly depending on your eye shape (3), and then add a light sparkly pink champagne colour to the entire lid (4). Eyeliner and false lashes are optional but very essential for me, so I went ahead and added a thin winged liner using NYX matte liquid liner, add some mascara (5) and applied HERHairUK Lashes in the style Snob101 (6). Lastly, you use a light shimmery coloured shadow and add that to your inner tear duct, creating eye boogers lol (7).

C – Prime your face if you love yourself. I don’t believe in just targeting certain areas of your face as there is a primer for all skin types, but it takes a lot of searching to find what is best for you. I use Benefit matte rescue, allow that to dry all the way down and then go over that with Maybelline baby skin. If I’m trying to have my makeup last all day and night, I will apply Airspun translucent powder all over my face, after using my primers. This creates the perfect matte and pore-less base for my makeup. I then use the NYX born to glow illuminator before applying Fenty beauty Pro Filt’r foundation (1 pump) and blend it out until it melts into the skin.

D – I then go in with the same concealer that I used to carve out my eyebrows with for cream highlighting. LA pro concealer is great for highlighting as it does not crease under the eyes. I’ve tried and loved NARS’ creamy concealer but someone stole that lol. I only apply this product under my eyes and use what is left on my beauty blender to distribute it along the high points of my face. This avoids that overly caked look – you want your makeup to compliment your complexion not cover it!

E – Everywhere where I have applied cream concealer to, I set with Sacha Buttercup powder and allow to bake. This really locks your concealer in place, and no, I don’t have a set time that I bake for. If you’re using the right shades to compliment your skin tone you can never bake for ‘too long’, unless your skin type is dry (I’ve baked for 45mins before with this powder and have seen no difference with the final outcome of my makeup).

F – Contour your face to bring back dimension. Often when you’ve applied foundation it takes away from the natural contours of your face (making my face look flat) so you just bring it back. Don’t overdo it though, just add back a bit of dimension around the perimeters of your face, under the cheekbone, your temples, nose and double chin. I use the sleek contour kit in dark to do this.

G – Because I’m messy when it comes to my contour, at this point, I just cut my jawline with some Airspun translucent powder to define where I have contoured. I also add the tiniest amount of translucent powder towards the middle of my face over the Sacha buttercup whilst it is still baking (as Airspun is a translucent powder, once applied try to do the next few steps with some vim, as, if this is left on for longer than 5 mins you’re not going to be happy lol).

H – Go over your cheekbones, the perimeters of your face and your nose with some bronzer. This helps to get rid of any harsh lines that you could have possibly created throughout the process of highlighting and contouring (use the same places you contoured previously as a guide for applying your bronzer).

I –  Wipe away all the excess powder off your face! Apply a bit of pressure when you’re doing this so you can really remove any excess products still baking. I then use a skin tone powder and go over my entire face. This is what creates the illusion of everything being blended out evenly and also helps in masking any harsh lines. The powder I use is MAC studio fix.

J – Spray your face with a setting spray – I use Urban decay all-nighter, and then immediately go in with a shimmery highlighter of your choice on the highest points of your face. I used a highlighter that I recently purchased by revolution and I love it. Apply it just above your cheekbones, cupids bow, chin, forehead, the tip of your nose and your brow bone. Doing it like this will give your highlighter something to adhere to and will glisten more that way.

K – To complete the look I decided to do an ombre, muted pink lip combo. I lined my lips with a dark brown lip liner by Sleek and then used a plum brown lip gloss by MAC as the base colour. I then went over that with NYX buttergloss in Praline (a dirty pink shade) and then use another buttergloss in the colour Tiramisu (light pink) strictly in the centre of the lip to create an ombre effect. I love this lip combo on brown skins it looks too yummy!

All these products are flash proof, so you can really enter this new year and level all the way up.
